TAKE ME TO TURTLE BAY

Tuesday, May 30, 2017

Last Friday we were very kindly invited by our local Turtle Bay in Southampton to sample some of the newitems on their menu.

We first tried Turtle Bay last year when we went to Liverpool and loved it you can see that vlog HERE

What I love about the restaurant is the holiday vibe you get from the moment you walk in, the atmosphere the decor, the music, the smells....

Not only were we looking forward to trying some new dishes but I was also pleased to see so many vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options meaning so much choice catering for everyone.

STARTERS

For starters we shared the following,

TRINI DOUBLES

Street vendor style “puffed up” bara roti flatbreads, spiced curried chickpeas, cucumber & mango chutney with fresh shredded coconut

Which Chris REALLY enjoyed, I've never seen him enjoy chickpea's before, he's always recoiled in horror when I've eaten humous.... :)

JERK GLAZED PIT RIBS

24 hour marinated, grilled baby back pork ribs, served with a fresh watermelon, lime & green herb chow. Pick your jerk glaze from classic, pineapple or coconut [GF]
We opted for the coconut glaze which was yummy, but we weren't sure what to make of the watermelon topping, it was certainly different.

MAIN COURSE

For our mains we wanted to have a mix of a meat option and a veggie option we opted for...

SLOW BRAISED BEEF RIB

Marinated beef ribs, slow cooked & jerk pit grilled, with sweet onion chutney & green seasoning. Served with sweet potato fries, fresh watermelon and lime chow salad. With the classic spicy jerk salad.

SPINACH, AUBERGINE & SWEET POTATO CURRY

Spinach, aubergine & sweet potato in a fragrant light curry sauce, Green beans, kidney beans & sugar snap peas cooked with Jamaican spice, served with steamed rice and roti flatbread.

Both meals were absolutely delicious I could eat mine all over again.

COCKTAILS & PUDDINGS

On Fridays there is a happy hour with buy one get one free cocktails which I happily partook in trying the new
Goombay Smash & Roots Culture

Both cocktails were a mix of fruity and  crisp and certainly gave me a kick on a Friday afternoon. They were very moorish. As Chris was driving he tried the new Pineappleade which he assured me was very tasty.

For desserts we decided to share

BANANA & TOFFEE CHEESECAKE

Triple layered cheesecake with crispy biscuit base, creamy soft cheese and banana and toffee

DARK CHOCOLATE BROWNIE

Rich dark chalet baked pie served warm with vanilla ice -cream

With bellies full of spice and rum we left with food bellies and smiles on our faces

We loved trying parts of the new menu, thank you to Turtle Bay for having us.
I vlogged some of it it this weeks weekend vlog, so you can head over to the channel to see that.
